For Referrers

Referring Doctors Information

The Breast Imaging Victoria provides comprehensive breast care treatment while keeping the GP and associated doctors up to date with patients progress. Open communication is encouraged in all aspects of our unit.

We have included a frequently asked questions page for Doctors, as well as downloadable resources such as brochures and newsletters for your reading.

Our breast specialists will also provide additional information and guidance on breast issues for Doctors upon request.

About Referrals

  • Referrals may be provided directly to the patient or submitted electronically. To submit a referral electronically, please contact us at 03 9419 6766 for an BIV referral template which may be used or click here to download.
  • Validity: A GP referral for a consultation is valid for 12 months.
  • A specialist referral is valid for 3 months.
  • If a patient is returning to discuss a new issue within the validity period of their referral, a new issue does require a new referral. This will enable our Breast Specialists to be kept up to date on the patient’s health and it will also enable the patient to be eligible for a Medicare rebate for their consultation.

Upon request from either the patient and/or referring practitioner, we will provide a copy of the imaging (via disc) free of charge. Just ensure that you tick ‘Y’ to the question, 'Copy of our imaging requested for patients,' on the referral form.
