Frequently Asked Questions

What About Radiation Exposure?

Very low levels of radiation or x-ray energy are used during our Mammograms, and there is no risk for any patients having Ultrasound alone. The total dosage for the Genius 3D Mammogram is well within the recommended guidelines.

Am I Able to wear Deodorant on the Day of the Examination?

Talcum/dusting powder or deodorant should not be applied to the breast or armpit on the day of the examination as it causes false appearances on the films. Please let the Radiologist know before the procedure if you are wearing any of these products.

How Long Does my Referral Last?

A referral for Breast Imaging Victoria is only valid for one year from the date on the referral and three months for a referral from a specialist. Please ensure you have a valid referral before you come to each appointment and if you are unsure please contact our reception team to discuss this.
